Mr. Luis Caro

Mr. Luis Caro-Zapata was born and raised in Puerto Rico in 1984. He is a first-generation college graduate. His personal and career goals have always been aligned with the service to others. As a young adult in Puerto Rico, Mr. Caro invested most of his time in church-based community activities helping others in need.  It was his passion for service that led him to choose a career in the field of education, and this passion always matched his commitment to academic performance. In 2009, he completed a bachelor’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Mr. Caro worked as a teacher for seven years in Puerto Rico. Through hard work and dedication, he earned honor scholarships all the way through the completion of his Master’s Degree. While he considered himself a highly effective teacher, he had the desire to impact the students’ life in a more holistic way. The need for a new goal became apparent, and Mr. Caro chose to become a school counselor. 

In January 2011, Mr. Caro started his master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling, which he completed in 2014 from the same institution with a 4.00 GPA.  With the completion of his master’s, he made the decision to move to Florida. After a very successful year as a School Counselor, he was offered the position of Dean of Students, which changed his career trajectory and fueled his passion for educational leadership. Mr. Caro has served as a Dean of Students and is now entering his second year as an Assistant Principal. 

This three-year experience as part of the administrative team has motivated him to start an Administrative and Leadership program to further his knowledge and skills and aspire to the role of assistant principal and/or principal. After careful consideration and research of different doctorate programs, Mr. Caro was admitted to the Doctor of Curriculum and Instruction of University of West Florida program. He passionately believes that education is an investment in oneself. He also believes in the power of diversity and inclusivity. His career and life choices have placed him in a path where he can educate about equity, empower other minority members, and build bridges among communities.
