| Students read a book published by the Clark Brothers Chewing Gum
Company, titled “The Adventures of Tommy Teaberry” after reading the book the students made
computer generated puppet designs of the main character. This book which was featured in the
NAEA Journal Volume 49, Number 1, Fall 2007 has author J. Ulbricht making reference to how he
saw this book as an early form of advertising, dubbing it a public relations venture for
chewing gum company. This was an excellent book for the students to read, because computer
graphics deals with elements of commercial design and advertising, in this way the students
were able to extend their technical skills and make reference to real life professions.
Through cooperative learning and the reading of real literature the students helped share
design ideas of the main character. Peer tutoring was encouraged and help to bridge the
information gap between cognitive skills and technical abilities. The finished puppet designs
were laminated and mocked up to create real movable themed puppets. |
