| Students created their own original computer
generated design for a pop up card, after taking a close look at the
aesthetic qualities of art as well as the technical, cultural and historical
evolution of card design. They were able to compare and contrast work
published in the early 1800’s to what is on the market today. In Europe
Valentine greetings were first popular during the middle Ages, early
cards were using real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures, but by the
end of the 1800’s Valentine’s Day cards were made by machine. The progression
of pop-up art into a movable book form became popular between the 1869’s
and early 1900’s. Pop-up art is famous world wide with major production
seen in Germany, London and the Unites States. The students were able
to create their own design for a pop-up style card on the computer which
allowed them to pull from their own character references and backgrounds.
The students could create unique themes for their cards, write headlines,
and create original illustrations to help communicate thoughts, expressions
and ideas. Reference material that the students could draw from included
pictures from textbooks, internet resources or magazines. |
