| Students analyzed text books of famous magazine
cover illustrators, such as Norman Rockwell. Background information was
provided from the teacher’s personal experiences in working with magazine
design. Students researched magazine designs at the store and provided
examples of elements of good design, such as a single strong focal point,
good visual hierarchy established in type design and attributes of using
high contrast. The students then developed their own design for a mini
“Kid‘s Life” magazine cover design on the computer using Adobe Illustrator.
Digital photography was used to take a picture of each student, so that
they became the focal point of the cover design. The students developed
their own copy and worked together in a cooperative learning environment. |
